Fred Buckman is an experienced executive in the fields of electric and gas utilities and power plant engineering and construction. He has served as the Chief Executive Officer of both Consumers Power Company (now Consumers Energy) and PacifiCorp. He also served as the Chief Executive of the Shaw Power Group. Prior to his role as a CEO, he served as the Chief Nuclear Officer and Consumers Power. In these roles, Fred was successful in building value for all stakeholders, and he focused on creating sustaining cultures that were stakeholder focused. In the private equity sector, he has served as the Managing Director-Utilities for Brookfield Asset Management and he founded Trans-Elect, a transmission company instrumental in the restructuring of the electric utility industry.
Prior to his senior executive experience, Fred devoted about fifteen years to the safe operation of nuclear facilities at Consumers Power and elsewhere. His education includes a BSE in Science Engineering from the University of Michigan (where he still serves as an Adjunct Professor) and a PhD in Nuclear Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He also attended the Executive Development Program at Harvard Business School.
Fred has served on about twenty Boards of Directors for both private and public companies that include utilities, financial services, and advanced energy technologies.
